Social isolation is a boost for social media. We’ve seen this dynamic play out in new ways during the coronavirus pandemic, as the widespread quarantining of citizens around the world sent more and more of them to social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tik-Tok.
In the era of social distancing and shutdowns to real-life interaction, social media is a valuable tool that keeps us in touch with our friends, loved ones and the rest of the world. Studies showed that those of the Millennial generation — people aged 25-34 — 30% say that they have increased social media use since the outbreak of COVID-19. For Generation X (35-54 years old), 29% said it increased, while Baby Boomers and older (ages 55+) the percentage is 15%.
Inevitably, the increase of social media use means a parallel boost for the download and use of content creation app, with a 20% increase in time spent across these types of digital tools worldwide. Its user base tripled and people are spending 25% more time editing videos, according to metrics provided to USA TODAY.
Content editing apps have reported a broadening user base, while apps like Facebook have seen the number of people using live video streaming features double.
Lightricks, an AI app developer with millions of users across Facetune, Pixaloop, Quickshot and Photofox saw a rise in everyday usage that corresponds directly with the coronavirus outbreak.
“As people need to physically distance themselves in these difficult times, one positive is that humans are finding outlets to fuel their creativity,” said Zeev Farbman, CEO of Lightricks.
According to Music Business Worldwide, in just the week of March 16-22, the TikTok video app was downloaded 2 million times (an 18% increase in downloads from the previous week). The app also saw a 27% increase in the first 23 days of March compared to February with 6.2 million downloads.
The pandemic is bringing on change across society, which businesses must react to quickly. And the development of video making apps is one domain that is ripe for expansion. FotoInMotion aims to capitalize on this unique opportunity!
